WINTER WILDLIFE SHOOT, January 11 – 14, 2013
If you love photographing wildlife, the best (and easiest) way to get frame-filling shots of mountain
lions, wolves, bobcats, lynx and other species of North American animals is at a game farm. I am
conducting a workshop at the Minnesota Wildlife Connection specifically during the winter to get
those classic shots in the snow that you have admired for so long in other photographer’s portfolios.
Even though this is a captive environment, though, the photography is not easy. The animals are
free to run around in a large area, and all of your photographic skills must come into play to capture
great images. You will be inside these large enclosures so there is nothing between you and the animals.
Sometimes we will shoot the animals running free in the open, on a frozen river or in a large meadow.
The wolves love this and they are full of energy — which is great to shoot but definitely a challenge. It is
safe, exciting, and you will return home with outstanding images. Every evening I will critique
the day’s pictures, and in addition I will discuss techniques in Photoshop that you can use to improve
what you’ve taken. Just to be this close to these beautiful animals is worth the trip, but to capture their
beauty and grace with your camera is something that will stay with you always.
The cost to photograph all these animals is much cheaper in a group, and you will definitely feel
like you’ve gotten your money’s worth when you see the results of your efforts. Your pictures
can’t help but be outstanding!
This year’s workshop includes an additional day to photograph raptor as well. We will have one full day
to shoot owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles in a natural environment, and there will also be opportunities
to capture these stunning birds of prey in flight.
