There are no two cities that are more photogenic than London and Paris. Join me for an exciting photo workshop in which we explore these two capital cities and photograph their world famous icons as well as many of their hidden treasures.  You will fly into Paris and return home from London.  After four nights in Paris photographing the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, the Arc of Triumph, the Louvre, and the Palace of Versailles (and more), we take the high speed Chunnel to London and shoot Big Ben, the Parliament Building, the incredible Science Museum, the London Eye (and more). We will be out everynight at twilight because European cities are illuminated so artfully, and Jim will address how to handle the many low light environments that we will encounter such as cathedral and museum interiors.

The itinerary below is weather-dependent and is subject to change.

Itinerary

Day 1, Thursday, Sept. 24:  Depart from the U.S. for France on your trans-Atlantic flight

Day 2, Friday, Sept. 25:  Arrive in Paris and transfer to the hotel. Jim will give you an orientation where he will explain how to shoot in low light environments, what to do when tripods are not allowed, how best to shoot the beautiful ceilngs you'll see, and how to handle challenging exposure and contrast situations.  In the late afternoon, we will photograph the interior of the stunning Lafayette Mall, and then after our welcome dinner at a lovely restaurant on the roof of the mall, we'll photograph Sacre Coeur from this elevated perspective.  This twilight photo session is beautiful.

Day 3, Saturday, Sept. 26: Today we travel to the Palace of Versailles just outside of Paris.  The art and architecture are amazing, and the grounds around the palace seem to go on forever.  The theater ceiling inside the palace is one of the great ceilings of Europe.  Later, back in the city, we shoot the stunning Basilica of Sacre Coeur on Montmartre at twilight, an unforgettable visual and photographic treat.

Day 4, Sunday, Sept. 27: This morning we photograph the spectacular opera house.  The interior is truly remarkable, and this is a great opportunity to use HDR for maximun drama. We will have lunch in Saint-Michel, and afterwards we'll photograph the incredible Sainte Chapelle where you can see and photograph some of the most exquisite stained glass windows in Europe. Nearby is Notre Dame, and before dinner we'll capture the cavernous interior.  At twilight, Notre Dame makes a classic image.

Day 5, Monday, Sept. 28: This morning we get up early and shoot the Eiffel Tower through the Peace Memorial at dawn. We will then have breakfast back at the hotel,   The afternoon is at leisure for more photography, shopping, or relaxing.  After dinner, we shoot the Louvre at twilight.  The contrast between the ultra modern glass pyramid and the classic architecture of the museum itself is fantastic.  If you are not too tired, we can shoot the Arc of Triumph with traffic streaks forming a dramatic foreground.

Day 6, Tuesday, Sept. 29: Today we board the Chunnel for the 2 1/2 hour train trip to London.  We transfer to our hotel, and after checking in we'll get settled, have an early dinner, and get positioned at a perfect location near the Tower Bridge for award-winning shots at twilight.

Day 7, Wednesday, Sept. 30  We get up very early this morning to photograph the classic icons of London, Big Ben and the Parliament Building.  In the early morning, we can capture beautiful dawn lighting without the vibration of Westminster Bridge from traffic.  After breakfast, we visit the spectacular Natural History Museum when they first open to get the balcony view before too many people arrive.  Following lunch, another world class museum with incredible architecture is the British Museum. This will captivate you for hours. No tripods are allowed in either museum, but you will still be able to take outstanding images with Jim's guidance. This evening's twilight shoot is the London Eye.

Day 8, Thursday, Oct. 1  This morning we travel to Greenwich to photograph the quaint village and the spectacular spiral staircase in the Queen's House.  After lunch, we photograph the breathtaking exterior of Westminter Abbey. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.  After dinner, we capture the beautiful twilight colors in Trafalgar Square.

Day 9, Friday, Oct. 2  This morning we take a private bus for the 1 1/2 hour trip to Salisbury.  The impressive 13th century medieval cathedral was built in only 38 years, and it's one of England's oldest.  Both interior and exterior views are fantastic.  Only nine miles away is Stonehenge, and we visit this ancient site as well.  Jim will share his thoughts regarding embellishing your images of Stonehenge with Photoshop as well as using the HDR technique here.  Return to London.

Day 10, Saturday, Oct. 3:  Today we depart London for the flight across the Atlantic and home.
