I had fun with this one. When I did a photo tour to Newfoundland in Canada, a few years ago I found a Newfoundland dog to photograph -- it seemed entirely appropriate. There is an area of St. John's called 'Jellybean Row' because all the houses are painted with bright colors. I didn't think Photoshop could do a good job selecting all that hair, but much to my surprise it turned out very well. I pasted the layer in front of the building and used the clone tool to refine the edges. To select the dog, I used Select > subject. Newfies are huge dogs weighing about 180 pounds, but they really don't know how big they are. For my camera, he gave me this goofy expression that couldn't have been more perfect.

Al (from Mark’s days) - Very cool shot. Jelly Bean Row sounds like a cool place to shoot.

Sharon D Fitch - I know you are super busy with workshops etc. However, I recommend you watch the TV series entitled "Hudson & Rex". It's film in St. John's, Newfoundland and surrounding areas. Rex, a beautiful German Shepherd, is a joy to watch. Unfortunately, Rex died in late 2024 but the show is still a great watch.
