Last Thursday I posted a picture of a scissors-tailed flycatcher attacking a crested caracara. Now that I’m home from the Texas birds workshop, I’ve had time to go through my images examining other frames from that sequence. I thought you’d be interested in seeing another part of this amazing interaction. Here, you can see the flycatcher starting to lift off from the back of the raptor, and the caracara’s mouth is open in an attempt to dislodge the attacker. Again, this has been significantly cropped, but the fact that the image is as sharp as it appears is a testament to the resolution of the Canon R5. My settings were 1/3200, f/7.1, and 2000 ISO.
