This is the stunning staircase in the Rookery Building in Chicago. To encompass as much of the design as possible -- the sensual curves, the play of light and dark, the repetitive shapes -- I used a 14mm wide angle lens. My settings were 1/125, f/5.0, and 8000 ISO. It wasn't feasible to use a tripod, so I had to increase the ISO to deal with the relatively dark environment. Because this lens has phenomenal depth of field, the f/5.0 lens aperture didn't prevent me from showing sharp detail from the foreground to the background. To photograph this staircase, I had to call the management in the building to make an appointment.
