I shot directly into the partially obscured sun to capture intense backlighting on this sacred ibis in Capetown, South Africa. I was surprised that the meter in my Canon R5 is so good that the brilliant light didn't adversely affect the meter reading. I made no adjustment to the meter beforehand. This is essentially straight out of the camera. I used a 100-500mm telephoto, and the settings were 1/1000, f/7.1, and 400 ISO. I didn't need a super fast shutter speed because ibises are slow flyers, and this one was mostly gliding. To capture every nuance of the flight, and to get the bird perfectly placed with respect to the sun, I was shooting at 20 frames per second.
