There is a section of road in Northern Ireland defined by beech trees called Dark Hedges. The trees were planted in the 18th century as an impressive entrance to a Georgian mansion; today the road is traversed by cars but it is nevertheless just as dramatic as it has ever been. I've been here several times and photographed it in various moods. This is my favorite -- no direct sunlight but the high Kelvin temperature of dusk. I used a medium telephoto (160mm) to purposely compress the scene, and the light level was quite low as you can see from my settings: 30 seconds, f/11, and 1000 ISO. Once in a while a car would come through, and I had to wait until it passed lest the headlights left unwanted trails of light.

Douglas Benson - Jim, I love this image...and so does Kathi, my dear wife. Where we used to live there was a long stretch of road that the locals dubbed the "tunnel of trees" that looks much like this except that it is all ficus trees rather than beech. Thanks for sharing. Douglas Benson
