This is a portrait I took in the Omo River Valley of Ethiopia. These girls are part of the Surma tribe, and they are known for decorating themselves with brightly colored face paint and flowers. Traveling to Ethiopia is like going back in time 20,000 years -- without exaggerating -- and the photography is amazing. The thing I focused on in taking this shot was the need for enough depth of field so both girls were sharp. Had one of them been slightly soft, I would have been disappointed and trashed the picture. Two subjects in a composition means both have to be sharp. My settings were 1/60, f/11, and 1000 ISO. My next photography tour to Ethiopia starts January 21, 2025.
