This is a green jay I photographed in south Texas during my last bird workshop there. There is a tremendous variety of beautiful and exotic birds in Texas, and the food we offer them brings the birds within telephoto range. What I always hope for with shots of birds in flight is both the wing feathers and the tail feathers spread out in an artistic display. This usually happens when they are landing on a perch. At 20 frames per second, I have a good chance of capturing it. The settings were 1/3200, f/11, and 3200 ISO. The super fast shutter is needed to freeze even the wing tip feathers.
