I photographed this wild peacock in Sri Lanka. In photography, backgrounds are just as important as subjects in making a picture great. No matter how wonderful your subject is, if the background behind it is distracting, busy, overexposed, or confusing, the picture is seriously degraded. In this shot, the dense green vegetation makes the perfect environment for one of the most beautiful birds in the world. My photo tour group and I were quite close to the bird in our safari vehicle, so I was able to use a 200mm focal length. My settings were 1/160, f/5.0, and 1600 ISO.
