Edge lighting is one of the most dramatic and effective types of natural light. This was sunrise on the dunes in Lencois Maranhenses, Brazil. Using my post-processing skills, I added a lot of contrast, clarity, and vibrance to make the landscape more impactful. I wanted to emphasize the telephoto compression -- I took this composition with a 365mm focal length -- but that meant depth of field was an issue. To insure each of the dune crests were sharp, which was essential, as well as the sky, I used a lens aperture of f/22. My other settings were 1/250 and 500 ISO. Unlike the other shots of this place in which I used a drone, this picture was taken as I stood on the top of a large dune.
