My photo tour group were privileged today to visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. This facility rescues wild elephants that wouldn't have survived due to some kind of accident, like a broken bone, or an illness. The elephants are well cared for, and their regimen includes play time and a bath in the river three times per day. Here you see a large male being scrubbed clean by four caregivers, and as far as I could tell, the elephant was in pure ecstasy! You can see the tip of his trunk sticking up above the water so he could breathe. My settings in the bright 10'oclock in the morning sunlight were 1/2000, f/7.1, and 400 ISO. I used a 100-400mm zoom to capture the scene. I minimized the effect of the harsh light by working with the highlight and shadow sliders in Adobe Camera Raw.
