Female leopard and cub

When on safari in Africa, animals can get surprisingly close. On one of my photo tours to Kenya, for example, a lioness walked over to the Land Rover I was in and started munching on one of the tires! I looked down on her with a distance between our heads of about 4 feet. I mention this because for this shot of a female leopard and her cub, I shot with a 70-200mm lens. That tells you how close we were to the cats. My camera settings were 1/640, f/7.1, and 2500 ISO. Every morning on safari, we go out early for sunrise lighting. If there are no clouds, after about an hour the light is no longer beautiful. It starts to be harsh and contrasty. 90 minutes after sunrise, good photography is pretty much impossible. You can still shoot, but the magic is gone. With overcast skies like I had when this picture was taken, shooting time is extended because you can never go wrong with diffused light.
