This is one of the stunning ice sculptures at the Harbin Snow and Ice Festival in China. Photographing the illuminated ice carvings was particularly dramatic after dark. Thanks to the ability to see exposures in the viewfinder with mirrorless cameras, it was easy to obtain perfect exposures on the fly. With film, we'd be bracketing every shot. You would think a tripod was necessary for this kind of night photography, but the lighting was so bright that daytime exposure settings worked. The settings for this shot were 1/250, f/5.6, and 1000 ISO. I used a 24-105mm lens for this composition.
