Jaguar off the port bow

Jaguars make their living, so to speak, mostly in water. In the Pantanal region of Brazil, seventy percent of their diet are caiman. So, they have to be really good swimmers. I captured this one crossing a river right in front of the boat I was in. I had to quickly switch from a 500mm f/4 to a 70-200mm because the cat crossed about 10 feet in front of the bow. This incident was one of the reasons I now use a 100-500mm zoom. It's so flexible with composition; I don't have to change lenses in situations like this. The camera settings were 1/1000 f/9, and 2000 ISO.
