Masai silhouette

I took this shot in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. In order to make the sun large behind the acacia tree, I had to use a long lens. In this case, 500mm. I wanted to include the Masai tribesman, but it wasn't possible to also render both subject and background sharp even at f/22 given 1) the distance from the shooting position to the subject ,and 2) the focal length of the lens. Artistically, it was essential that both foreground and background be sharp. Therefore, to overcome the limitations of optics, I took a separate picture of the tribesman and then used Photoshop to combine him with the African background.
