I am conducting my annual Frog and Reptile workshop in Kansas City right now. This is the eye of a crested gecko that I photographed with a 50mm macro lens and two extension tubes. I used a ring flash for illumination, but instead of affixed to the camera, the ring with the built in flash tubes was held off to the side to create side lighting. This produced more dimension and depth. Originally there were reflections in the eye from the flash showing two bright semicircles; using the clone tool I eliminated them. The settings were 1/60, f/32, and 400 ISO. When doing macro photography, it's important to garner as much depth of field as possible to show detail in the small subjectcts. Hence, the small lens aperture.
