The tiniest of primates

This is a tarsier. Tarsiers are the smallest primates in the world, and they live in Indonesia and the Philippines. They are about the size of a man's fist, obviously nocturnal because of their huge eyes (it's like they are looking at the night through a lens aperture of f/.7), and they are very slow moving. Tarsiers are the only primates that are 100% carnivores, consuming no plant matter at all. I don't like to use flash with wildlife, but in this case it was so dark that a sharp photo was impossible without flash. This was taken with my medium format film camera, the Mamiya RZ 67, two years before I went digital. I used Fujichrome Provia 100 transparency film. I'm developing a photo tour right now to the Philippines, and one of the places I'll take the group is to a tarsier sanctuary to photograph other species of these intriguing little primates.
