Wild dogs are hard to photograph. They always seem to be running somewhere, and if they assume a nice pose, like this one, it lasts for not more than a second or two. This particular animal was part of a pack that was on the hunt near Kruger National Park in South Africa, and because I was on a private reserve, there were no restrictions as to where we could go -- unlike in the national park itself. We drove right through the bush, over logs, rocks and small hills so my driver could follow the pack. We had to keep our distance, though, so we didn't interfere with the hunt. For only the briefest of moments, I was able to grab this shot. I was shooting with a Canon 500mm f/4 lens plus a 1.4x teleconverter giving me 700 of focal length, and the settings were 1/1000, f/5.6, and 1600 ISO.
