This is the spiral staircase inside the Eckmuhl Lighthouse on the Brittany Coast of France. What is particularly interesting is the color. The top of the stairs was not blue; rather, this color comes from the daylight white balance setting in my Canon R5 reacting to deep shade. In other words, diminished light, even natural daylight, has a high Kelvin temperature. This means it is seen as blue. The lower part of the stairs was largely illuminated by the incandescent fixture, hence the warm tones. What makes this picture work, aside from the striking graphic design of the architecture, is the contrast between the blue and the warmer tones in the composition. I used a 16-35mm wide angle lens for the shot, and the settings were 1/80, f/5.6, and 2000 ISO.
