What I look for in landscape photography as well as pretty much every other subject is graphic design. Striking graphics can be reduced to one key element: attractive lines. That’s one reason why photographers love shooting sand dunes so much. Bold and dynamic S-curves and the play of light and shadow translate into beautiful compositions. I took this picture in Sossusvlei, the famous area in Namibia where the largest and most stunning sand dunes in the entire world are located. I used a 400mm focal length for this sunset shot, and the settings were 1/1000, f/11, and 640 ISO. Here, I was able to capture a double S-curve.
