This is a crowned tree frog from Costa Rica. I photographed it during my annual Frog and Reptile workshop held in Kansas City. I used a 100mm macro lens plus one extension tube, and for the illumination I used a Canon ring flash. The flash provides enough light so I can close the lens down to f/32 for complete depth of field and, at the same time, I can lower the ISO (in this case to 125) for maximum picture quality. The conference room I use in the hotel has fluorescent lights in the ceiling, but they are eclipsed by the ring flash being used so close to the frog. I think this guy falls into the category of "a face only a mother could love!" My next Frog and Reptile workshop is June 13 & 14.

Sean Gage - Nice picture. Was this frog in a tank? Did you shoot through the tank glass?
