I photographed these great horned owlets in Southern California years ago with my medium format film camera, the Mamiya RZ 67. I used a 350mm lens, and the powerful Metz 60 CT-4 flash gun provided enough light, given the distance and the low ISO. I rarely use flash for wildlife photography, but in this case I had no choice. I also don't like on-camera flash because the light is flat and there's little dimension and texture. But again, I had no choice in this situation. My settings were unrecorded, but back in the 90's I always used Fujichrome Provia 100 for all of my photography of birds and animals, and Fujichrome Velvia 50 for landscapes and architecture.
