I photographed this malachite butterfly in Brazil. It is commonly seen from South America all the way up to Florida. I took this at 400mm, making sure the back of the camera was parallel with the wings for maximum depth of field. Even with a small lens aperture, when dealing with macro photography this may not be enough depth of field to render the entire subject sharp. I took this in 2017 when noise was still a serious issue, so I kept the ISO down. Because of this, and because I wanted a small aperture, and because the light level was low, I took a real chance with the shutter speed. It is uncomfortably low. My settings were 1/40, f/16, and 400 ISO. Holding my breath and trying to be as steady as possible, I lucked out and got a sharp picture.
