I photographed these common genets in Namibia. Although they are nocturnal and elusive, they often visit lodges for some unknown reason -- maybe looking for food -- and that’s how I got this picture. They are considered opportunistic omnivores because they will feed on rodents, insects, birds, reptiles, and fruit. I took this shot with a 100-500mm telephoto, and the settings were 1/400, f/7.1, and 800 ISO. It was about an hour before sunset, and although most photographers would have preferred the animals were illuminated by golden lighting, I am happier with the diffused light. There is less contrast and all of their detail can be seen clearly.
