I’ll never know what happened to make this lioness so angry with her male consort, but during the mating process she suddenly became aggressive and roared at the male. He, in turn, jumped back wondering, no doubt, what in the heck he did wrong. Mating can be very painful for female lions. I was shooting from a Land Rover with a Canon 500mm f/4, and the settings were 1/800, f/6.3, and 200 ISO. This kind of action shot happens in a fraction of a second, and that requires us to watch subjects through the viewfinder and not directly with our eyes. Only then will you be ready to shoot instanty.
