When I lead wildlife photo tours to Indonesia, one of the highlights is photographing orangutans in the wild. I took this shot in Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo. Rangers put out bananas twice a day, and the orangs come from great distances for the free food. It's amazing to see tall, slender trees sway back and forth as the primates use them to traverse the jungle from about 80 feet in the air. My settings for this shot of a mother and baby were 1/160, f/7.1 and 400 ISO. Fortunately, I had an overcast sky. There's no lighting in nature that is as bad as direct sun in a jungle environment. The contrast is so bad it's just not repairable in post-processing.
