Orang portrait

This is a male orangutan I photographed in the Indonesian state of Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. I usually prefer diffused light for outdoor portraits -- for people or animals -- but in this case the angle of the light gave a very different look that I like. Many of the orangs are comfortable within close proximity to people, so I only used a 400mm focal length for this shot. My other settings were 1/500, f/8, and 640 ISO. I'm leading another photo tour to capture Indonesian wildlife, including Komodo dragons, next year.
