This is a wild toque macaque I photographed in Sri Lanka. This picture is uncropped. The 560mm focal length I used enabled me to capture this intimate portrait because the primate was so close to the Land Rover I was riding in. The camera settings were 1/400, f/8, and 1250 ISO. When photographing animals and birds in the tropics, where forests are dense, the best case scenario for lighting is soft and diffused. Even sunrise and sunset low angled light can be problematic because of harsh shadows and contrast. Overcast skies are a photographer's friend in so many nature situations.
