When you look at this picture, you probably think I created it in AI or put together some kind of composite. It looks like a fantasy landscape, too remarkable to be real. In fact, this is Tumpak Sewu waterfall in East Java, Indonesia. Mt. Semeru, an active volcano, is in the background. From the observation point near the parking area, the horseshoe-shaped waterfall is very impressive and it makes a great picture. But from a drone, it’s spectacular. I took this shot at sunrise from an altitude of 390 feet, and the settings were 1/80, f/1.8, and 140 ISO with a 24mm lens. To create a vertical picture, the drone takes three individual horizontal frames and then automatically stitches them together literally on the fly. When I look at the controller as the drone is still airborne, I can see the finished blend of the three frames. In the early morning , fog often hovers around the falls adding mood and atmosphere. As soon as the sun hits the waterfall, the fog is replaced by a bright rainbow.

Jim - Thanks so much, Maria. I appreciate that. This has to be one of my all-time favorite landscape pictures.
