One of the lodges I use in the Pantanal region of Brazil for my photo tours there lures a wild ocelot every early evening with fresh chicken. Photographing wildlife and birds in the tropics is challenging because the dense vegetation makes it difficult to get a clear shot of your subjects. In this situation, though, the ocelot comes into a clearing and it's relatively easy to get excellent images. The light is low, however, and that necessitates high ISO settings depending on the time. I made this shot before sunset so my ISO was only 2500. The other settings were 1/250 and f/5.6. To get this low perspective, I was sitting on the jungle floor. As I've written in many previous posts, a low point of view makes a huge difference. It creates a more intimate portrait as if you are in the world of the subject as opposed to simply being an observer. My next available Pantanal photo tour is the beginning of December, 2025.
