Anhingas hunt fish by spearing them with their long beaks. What was really intriguing, though, and almost comical, was watching this bird try to swallow the fish whole. Not so easy. It took about a whole minute for the fish to disappear into the anhinga's throat. I took this with a 500mm focal length, and the settings were 1/1600, f/8, and 3200 ISO. I needed the fast shutter speed because the bird was flicking its beak in super fast movements and swimming back and forth trying to eat its meal. I'm in the Pantanal region of Brazil, and there are birds everywhere. Dozens and dozens of species are all around us.
