I posted a picture of this guy a year ago, and since then he's grown and his gills turned red. This is an albino axolotl, native to Mexico. It is a neotenic (retaining juvenile physical or behavioral traits into adulthood) salamander, living its entire life in water. During the Frog and Reptile workshop, the axolotl was placed temporarily in a very narrow custom made aquarium which inhibited movement away from the camera. This helped maintain depth of field. I used a ring flash off to the side for soft sidelight. In post-processing, I did extensive work eliminating the original environment. The settings were 1/60, f/32, and 400 ISO. I used a 50mm macro lens for the shot.
