Ati-atihan festival

The origin of the annual Ati-atihan Festival in the Philippines dates back to the 13th century. I missed the event by three weeks when I was there last time, so I asked my hotel concierge if he could arrange a private shoot with some of the costumed participants. He did, and this is one of the results. I thought it would be a unique series of shots to photograph the models in the shallows of the sea, especially because the turquoise color of the water was so intense. This was taken in 2002 before I went digital. The medium format film camera I used was the Mamiya 7 along with a 43mm wide angle lens. In the 6x7cm format, this was equivalent to a 21mm lens in the full frame digital format we use now. The settings were unrecorded, but they were probably 1/125, f/11, and I would have used Fujichrome Provia 100 film.
