Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park has very strange, and very beautiful, mineral flows that are quite captivating. I found this composition in the late afternoon, and even though contrast was minimal compared to midday, I still had to open up the shadows and tone down the highlights in Photoshop (using the burn and dodge tools) to make the picture look good. I took this with film in the 90's with the medium format Mamiya RZ 67 camera using Fujichrome Velvia 50. I remember using a 250mm lens which is equivalent to a 135mm telephoto in the full frame digital format. The lens aperture was f/32 to insure both the foreground and the background were sharp, and I focused on the foreground minerals. The shutter was probably 1/15, and in those days I used a tripod for pretty much everything.
