I got home from Switzerland last night. My cocker spaniel, Teddy, was ecstatic when I arrived had to be in physical contact with me the whole night. The last day of the Swiss tour included the dramatic Matterhorn, and we were very lucky it was fully visible. I've been there in the past when the top half of the mountain was totally obscured. The contrast of an 11am sun was pretty significant, so I took a 7-frame HDR bracketing sequence. That explains why you can see good shadow detail as well as highlight detail throughout the image. Most people who come here photograph the Matterhorn reflecting in Riffelsee, a sizable lake offering a classically beautiful reflection. However, there is another lake that is about 10 minutes more by walking, and it is smaller and has attractive boulders in it. That's what you see here. My settings were f/5.6, 100 ISO, and the shutter varied to create the HDR series of images. I used a 24-105mm lens set to 32mm for this picture.
