Venice at dawn

During the Venice carnival, costumed models come out to San Marco Square at dawn -- and sometimes earlier -- because they know the best pictures are taken of them without the crowds in the background. And, the ambient light is moody and beautiful. Plus, only serious photographers are there as well. To take advantage of the illuminated street lamps, though, is a race against time. They turn off about 15 to 20 minutes after the first light appears in the eastern sky. I've always liked the juxtaposition of the blue hour with artificial tungsten lighting. My settings for this hand held shot were 1/60, f/4.5, and 3200 ISO.
