I don't often post my wild and crazy images because I assume most of you prefer nature, wildlife, and travel imagery. But I'm proud of this one so I thought I'd share it since so many of you liked the abstraction of soap in yesterday's post. Back in 1994, I was selling images to Omni Magazine. They were famous for their avant-garde covers, and they liked my conceptual images. One day they called me and said they needed a picture that represents God. I thought, wow, where could I even begin. So, the next day I'm stopped at a red light near my house, and a truck pulls up next to me and on the side is a banner that reads, 'Ice carving by Jacque.' I thought, that's it! An ice sculpture. I called Jacque and asked him if we could carve a face and a head out of ice. He said yes, so I paid him for the carving, photographed it in his ice studio, and then in Photoshop I tweaked the features to what you see here. At the time, I was using a 3D program called Stratovision. That allowed me to make the two cloud panels, and I 'texture mapped' one of my cloud pictures onto the panels. Then in Photoshop placed them behind the face. For the mirrored abstraction in the background, I ran an electric current through a piece of 4x5 inch Fujichrome transparency film. When the film was developed, I got the very cool magenta abstraction. I then mirrored it in Photoshop and used it as the background for this composite.

Linfa Purdom - Yours is the first thing I look at before I go and look at my email. This is amazing and all done in camera, more or less. I so enjoy your work.
