Wildlife photography depends so much on luck. You can try to predict animal behavior, you can spend hours and days driving around looking for great photo opportunities, and you can be adept at knowing your expensive equipment. So often, though, a great shot simply depends on being in the right place at the right time. Adult Bengal tigers don't have natural enemies, so they walk around Ranthambhore and Bandhavgarh National Parks as if they own the place -- which they do. Even though most of the time they walk slowly, deliberately, I keep the high speed frame rate fully active in case I need it. My settings here were 1/400, f/7.1, and 800 ISO. I used the Canon 100-500mm lens for the shot.

FeAlicia See - I was in Ranthambore NP March 2026 for six excursions in 3 days and saw 5 different tigers, a leopard, 2 sloth bears, jackals, etc etc etc so I had great luck. It's nature and nothing is ever guaranteed.
