These are Japanese cranes involved in a mating dance I captured during a winter photo tour in Japan. It's challenging to take pictures of this kind of action because it happens very quickly, lasts for a couple of seconds at the most, and there are many pairs of birds. It's not possible to predict which of the pairs will display like this. Quick reaction time is essential. I took this picture with an 800mm focal length, and my settings were 1/800, f/9, and 800 ISO.
