This is a lemon hourglass frog from Costa Rica. I photographed it during my annual frog and reptile workshop in Kansas City. I use a hotel conference room, and the setups include flowers, plants, natural branches, and other elements from nature to make the images look like they were taken in a natural environment. I shot this with a 50mm macro lens, and for the lighting I prefer a ring flash because when it’s used in close proximity to the subject (within 6 inches) it simulates diffused daylight. The light wraps around the tiny subjects perfectly. My settings were 1/160, f/32, and 250 ISO. My next frog and reptile workshop is June 14 – 15, 2026.
