This is one of the most beautiful birds in the Pantanal region of Brazil. It is a sunbittern, and when it's wading in the river looking for fish, it is brown and boring. As soon as it takes flight, though, the unique colorful pattern shows and it's dazzling to see and photograph. My camera settings were 1/2000, f/5.6, and 1250 ISO. Usually I use 1/3200 for birds in flight, but larger birds have large wings, and their flap-rate is slower. Thus, I can get away with a slower shutter which, in turn, enables me to use a lower ISO. I always use the fastest frame rate on my camera using electronic mode to capture every nuance of the flight.
